1. Chi Rho Press Background.
Chi Rho Press was commissioned in January of 1990 as a Special Work of
the Mid-Atlantic District of the UFMCC (Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan
Community Churches) http://wwwufmcc.org
The founder and director, R. Adam DeBaugh, was at the time serving as
District Coordinator of the Mid-Atlantic District. He gathered together
a number of publishing efforts, which he'd been part of during his long
tenure with MCC, and merged them into what is now known as Chi Rho Press.
Over the past nine years, Chi Rho Press has published some excellent books,
many of which we will tell you about in upcoming issues of our eNewsletter.
In 1998 we had a very exciting and eventful year, with the publication
of three major books and our annual Liturgical Calendar.
--------------------------------
2. Recent Books of Note
The Fifth Edition of "The Bible and Homosexuality," by the Rev.
Michael E. England, is an excellent primer on the texts used to condemn
homosexuality in the Bible. While it is scholarly, it is also very easy
to read. ($10.95, six or more copies are $8.95 each, plus Shipping &
Handling)
"From Wounded Hearts: Faith Stories of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and
Transgendered People and Those Who Love Them," compiled by Roberta
Showalter Kreider has been one of our best sellers to date. It is an anthology
of 49 people telling their faith stories. ($19.95, six or more copies
are $14.95 each plus S & H.)
"The Liturgical Calendar for MCC, 1999, Year A," compiled by
the Rev. Joseph Gilbert and is a perennial best seller. ($4.75, 3.75 each
for six or more copies, plus S & H.)
----------------------
3. Book of the Month
"Come Home!
Reclaiming Spirituality and Community as Gay Men and Lesbians," (Second
Edition) by popular Gay Christian writer Chris Glaser.
Chris first published this book in 1990 with HarperCollins and we are
pleased to offer this completely new edition. It has five brand new chapters
added to the original 20, and a new preface. "Come Home!" is
perhaps Chris Glaser's best book and Chi Rho Press is very proud to publish
it.
The five sections of "Come Home!" (each with five chapters)
are entitled, "Welcoming God's Acceptance," "Receiving
Our Inheritance," "Discerning Our Call," "Making Our
Witness," and "Declaring Our Vision."
Of "Come Home" The Right Reverend John Shelby Spong, Episcopal
Bishop of Newark, said "Powerful, sensitive, and provocative. . .
. Glaser stands inside his own humanity as a gay male and hears the word
of God through the Bible. Christians, gay and straight, need this
book if we are to be the body of Christ."
The Rev. Carter Heyward called "Come Home," "an enthusiastic
compelling testimony to the power of faith in the lives of many gay and
lesbian Christians."
Virginia Ramey Mollenkott said, "If courage, honesty, and insight
are
beautiful, then this is one beautiful book. . . . I rejoice that in this
book all the gay men and lesbian women who have been robbed of their
spirituality are issued an urgent invitation: Come home!"
"Come Home!" by Chris Glaser offers a vision of faith, hope,
and affirmation inviting gay men and lesbians to come home to their
spirituality through Christian faith and community. Order your copy today!
"Come Home!" sells for $19.95, $14.95 each for six or more copies,
plus S & H

4. Promissory Notes Available
The Board of Directors of Chi Rho Press is pleased to announce for the
first time the availability of $1,000 Promissory Notes at 8% simple interest.
The term of these notes is two years, and will be repaid in quarterly
installments.
Why Promissory Notes?
To raise money for debt consolidation;
To raise working capital. The Press has never been adequately capitalized.
No start-up funds were available from the Mid-Atlantic District or UFMCC
when the Press began in 1990. As a result, everything we have done has
come from income from sales;
To provide a good return on investments for our supporters and to enable
them to help the Press at the same time.
Terms?
$1,000 Promissory Notes are offered at 8% simple interest for two years.
They will be paid back over a two year period at about $140 each quarter.
How?
E-mail Adam DeBaugh at ChiRhoPrss@aol.com and we'll sent you the text
of the Note. Upon receipt of your check for $1,000, we'll send you the
signed Promissory Note and payment schedule Please include your mailing
address (snail mail) and telephone number.
