We encourage submissions to our fledgling eNewsletter. Comments

later we will be able to open it up), questions, or news are
welcome. Due to space constraints we can't promise to print
everything we receive, and please keep anything you send to

1. Special Offer
"The 1999 Liturgical Calendar" is on sale! With the church year
half over, the "1999 Liturgical Calendar" is now on sale for
$2.95 each, plus shipping and handling (S&H).
For the past five years, we have published a Liturgical Calendar
compiled by the Rev. Joseph H. Gilbert (see News About Our
Authors). Liturgical Calendars are not lectionaries, but rather
a calendar of the church year that lists scripture readings and
liturgical colors for each Sunday and holy day. Also included
are selected Saints' Days and other Christian holidays, as well
as certain secular holidays. For each Sunday Gospel reading,
there is a brief synopsis of the reading.
"The Liturgical Calendar" follows the scripture readings
prescribed by the Consultation on Common Texts and which are
used almost universally throughout the Christian church around
the world. This is Year A in the three year rotation. The
Church Universal reads virtually the entire Bible following the
Liturgical Calendar readings in the three-year cycle.
"1999 Liturgical Calendar, Year A," regularly $4.75 each, now
$2.95 each plus shipping and handling.

2. Book of the Month
"The Bible and Homosexuality," Fifth Edition, by the Rev.
Michael E. England. $10.95 each, six or more copies for $8.95
each, plus S&H.
This is our perennial best seller, and we have published the
last 3 editions and many printings of Michael England's
excellent book. This is the best book that explores the Bible
passages that have traditionally been used to condemn LGBT
people.
Sections include Inspiration; Critical Interpretation (Textual
Criticism, Historical Criticism, Source Criticism, and Form
Criticism); the Passages Believed to Relate to Homosexuality
(Deuteronomy 23:17-18, Genesis 19:4-11, Leviticus 18:23 and
20:13-14, I Corinthians 6:9, I Timothy 1:10, and Romans
1:26-27); the "Contra Naturam" (against nature) argument;
Heterosexual Marriage as "the Only Biblical Model;" Adultery
and
Fornication; and a Bibliography.
"The Bible and Homosexuality" is 72 pages, perfect bound, with
a
striking cover photograph of the Washington National Cathedral
by renowned DC photographer Colin Winterbottom.
Every thinking Christian and all people who wish to engage other
Christians in reasoned debate should have this volume on their
shelves.
Michael England has been involved with MCC for many years. He
was educated at the University of California at Los Angeles and
holds a Master of Divinity degree from Golden Gate Baptist
Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, California. He is pastor of
MCC of Greater Hayward, CA, and has served as pastor of MCC San
Francisco, MCC Salt Lake City, Utah, and MCC at the Pennsylvania
State University (State College, PA). He was founding director
of the UFMCC Board of Campus Ministry and served on the UFMCC
Ministerial Credentials and Affairs Committee.
"The Bible and Homosexuality," Fifth Edition, by the Rev.
Michael E. England. $10.95 each, six or more copies for $8.95
each, plus S&H.

3. Promissory Notes Still Available.
We still have some Promissory Notes still available. The Chi
Rho Press Board of Directors is issuing $1,000 Promissory Notes
at 8% simple interest. The term of these notes is two years and
they will be repaid in quarterly installments.
The Notes are being offered to raise working capital to
consolidate debt the Press has incurred as a result of not being
capitalized, to raise working capital, and to provide a good
return on investments for our supporters and to enable them to
become partners with Chi Rho Press in our ministry.
$1,000 Promissory Notes are offered at 8% simple interest for
two years. They will be paid back over the two year period at
about $140 each quarter.
e-mail Adam DeBaugh at ChiRhoPrss@aol.com for the text of the

signed Promissory Note and payment schedule. Please include
your mailing address (snail mail) and telephone number. Send

4. News About Our Authors
The Rev. Joseph G. Gilbert is the man who has compiled and laid
out the UFMCC Liturgical Calendars, published by Chi Rho Press
for the past five years. Now honorably retired, Joseph has been
an MCC pastor for many years, serving in parishes around the US,
most recently in Philadelphia, PA, and Silver Lake, CA.
Joseph suffered a stroke in January of this year and is
recovering nicely in Las Vegas, Nevada. He reports in a recent
letter that he is living in a Board and Care Facility in Las
Vegas, and has lots of help from the saints at MCC in Las Vegas,
pastored by the Rev. Beau McDaniels.
Joseph lost a lot of personal belongings from his former home in
Tijuana, Mexico, in the aftermath of his stroke. He writes, "my
books are scattered across two countries, two states, and three
counties." But as he continues to recover, Joseph is getting
more involved in the church in Las Vegas -- and is now working
on the church eNewsletter.
We urge you to continue to pray for Joseph's complete recovery.
He has long been a blessing to MCC and to all who know him.

5. Book Signing at Giovanni's Room, Philadelphia
Our Philadelphia-area friends (and anyone else who wants to make
the trip) are invited to a book party at Giovanni's Room
bookstore, 12th and Pine Streets, Philadelphia, on Saturday,
June 5 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. "From Wounded Hearts: Faith Stories
of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered People and Those
Who Love Them," is the featured book. Roberta Showalter Kreider
of Sellersville, PA, who compiled and edited "From Wounded
Hearts," will be there along with at least four of the 49
authors of chapters in this anthology, and publisher Adam
DeBaugh.
"From Wounded Hearts" was published in 1998 by Chi Rho Press
and
is a wonderful anthology of 49 people telling their faith
stories. About two-thirds of the writers are LGBT folks and the
other third are family members of LGBT people. The writers come
from a wide variety of religious backgrounds including a lesbian
rabbi, and many are from the Anabaptist churches (Mennonites and
Brethren).
There are a number of parent child pairings in the book, with a
gay child writing in the first section and their parents writing
in the second, and one reversed with the gay parent and non-gay
child. "From Wounded Hearts" is a virtual "speakers' bureau
in
print," with rich and wonderful stories that will be sure to
inspire and move you.
Copies may be purchased at the day of the signing at Giovanni's
Room, or directly from Chi Rho Press for $19.95 each, $14.95 for
six or more copies, plus S&H.
See you in Philadelphia!

6. The Last Word
As you may know, Chi Rho Press is a small LGBT religious
publishing house. Our assistant editor, Kevin Stone Fries,
refers to us as a "micro-press," which makes me think of
micro-breweries. The office joke is, "If you like our books,
you should taste our beer!"
We currently have four part time staff people. I am the
Director and all-around chief cook and bottle washer. I also
have a full time secular job, which limits my time available for
the Press to evenings and weekends (though I am able to access
e-mail from work during the day).
Kevin Stone Fries is the assistant editor. Kevin is currently
working on his fourth manuscript for us now and is a gifted and
talented editor. He also consults with me and the board on the
business end of Chi Rho Press. Kevin also works as a
writer/abstracter for Information, Inc., in Bethesda, Maryland.
The Rev. Tom Bohache works part time as our office assistant,
fielding phone calls, filling orders, gathering e-mail
addresses, and the dreaded "other duties as assigned." Tom's
main ministry is as pastor of the Metropolitan Community Church
of Rehoboth, in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, which is thriving and
growing under his inspired leadership.
Our self-styled "Humble List Servant" is Ron DeVrou, who manages
our e-mail list and formats and sends out this eNewsletter, which
has been his brainchild. In addition to being a computer maven
par excellance, he is an openly gay Psychotherapist and Life
Coach with a growing practice on Dupont Circle in Washington,
DC. Ron also serves as a member of our board of directors.
As you can see, we have been blessed with some talented and
giving people helping out with the many tasks involved in
running a LGBT publishing house, for which we give thanks daily.
We will tell you about the rest of our talented board of
directors in an up-coming issue of the Chi Rho Press eNewsletter.
That wraps up our second eNewsletter. Please continue to keep
us in your prayers. We hope our publications will be of use to
you in your life and ministry.
We will talk with you again in about two weeks.
Grace and peace,
Adam DeBaugh
