1. Book Signing at Giovanni's Room, Philadelphia
Our Philadelphia-area friends (and anyone else who wants to make the trip)
are invited to a book party at Giovanni's Room bookstore, 12th and Pine
Streets, Philadelphia, on Saturday, June 5 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. "From
Wounded Hearts: Faith Stories of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered
People and Those Who Love Them," is the featured book. Roberta Showalter
Kreider of Sellersville, PA, who compiled and edited "From Wounded
Hearts," will be there along with at least seven of the 49 authors
of chapters in this anthology, and publisher Adam DeBaugh.
"From Wounded Hearts" is a wonderful anthology of 49 LGBT people
and their family members telling their faith stories. The writers come
from a wide variety of religious backgrounds including a lesbian rabbi,
and many are from the Anabaptist churches (Mennonites and Brethren). "From
Wounded Hearts" is a virtual "speakers' bureau in print,"
with rich and wonderful stories that will be sure to inspire and move
you.
Copies may be purchased at the day of the signing at Giovanni's Room,
or directly from Chi Rho Press for $19.95 each, $14.95 for six or more
copies, plus S&H.
See you in Philadelphia!
2. Readers' Comments.
From Lawrence A. Reh, First Light Ministries, Alameda, CA, USA --
"Just wanted to thank you for the 'Last Word' in #2 which introduced
some of the people who make Chi Rho Press a reality. It's very nice to
have a sense of identity and a little background on the people who are
doing such important work, and obviously as a labor of love for the most
part. I wish I could be part of such an enterprise. . . .Chi Rho Press
is vital!"
Lawrence Reh is a long-time Presbyterian activist and a leading light
in the
More Light Church movement. Thank you, Lawrence, for your very kind words.
And I think you ARE an important part of Chi Rho Press -- all of our readers
and
supporters are!

From the Rev. Arlene Ackerman, District Coordinator, UFMCC Mid-Atlantic
District
---------------------------------
"Greetings, Great eNewsletter, a welcome addition."
Thanks, boss! (Chi Rho Press is a Special Work of the Mid-Atlantic District
and we are proud to have Arlene as our District Coordinator.)

From Dottie Wine, Lomita, California --
"Thanks for sending the eNewsletter. A fascinating idea! I'm glad
you're doing it. I have forwarded it on to the local PFLAG chapter in
my area and invited them to send it to other PFLAG chapters and individuals.
I plan to send it to the clergy and a few other key individuals in my
progressive UCC church. It can certainly be another avenue of resource
material that will be welcome in those circles. Thanks again! One more
benefit of 'belonging' to BMC Link!"
Dottie is part of the Brethren/Mennonite Council for Lesbian/Gay Concerns
E-Mail Link and is active in PFLAG and BMC. Thanks for your welcome words
of encouragement and for your active support, Dottie!
Thank you all for your feedback!
3. Special Offer
"The 1999 Liturgical Calendar" is on sale! With the church year
half over, the "1999 Liturgical Calendar" is now on sale for
$2.95 each, plus shipping and handling (S&H).
For the past five years, we have published a Liturgical Calendar compiled
by the Rev. Joseph H. Gilbert. Liturgical Calendars are not lectionaries,
but rather a calendar of the church year that lists scripture readings
and liturgical colors for each Sunday and holy day. Also included are
selected Saints' Days and other Christian holidays, as well as certain
secular holidays. For each Sunday Gospel reading, there is a brief synopsis
of the reading.
"The Liturgical Calendar" follows the scripture readings prescribed
by the
Consultation on Common Texts. This is Year A in the three year rotation.
"1999 Liturgical Calendar, Year A," regularly $4.75 each, now
$2.95 each plus shipping and handling.
[Editor's Note: since we are endeavoring to come out twice a month, we
are going to run both our Special Offers and our Book of the Month sections
two issues in a row -- for an entire month. We will be alternating them
so there will be a new book either highlighted (the Book of the Month)
or on sale (the Special Offer) each issue of the Chi Rho Press eNewsletter.]
4. Book of the Month
"Come Home! Reclaiming Spirituality and Community as Gay Men and
Lesbians," (Second Edition) by popular Gay Christian writer Chris
Glaser.
Chris first published this book in 1990 with HarperCollins and we are
pleased to offer this completely new edition. It has five brand new chapters
added to the original 20, and a new preface. "Come Home!" is
perhaps Chris Glaser's best book and Chi Rho Press is very proud to publish
it.
The five sections of "Come Home!" (each with five chapters)
are entitled,
"Welcoming God's Acceptance," "Receiving Our Inheritance,"
"Discerning Our Call," "Making Our Witness," and "Declaring
Our Vision."
Of "Come Home" The Right Reverend John Shelby Spong, Episcopal
Bishop of Newark, said "Powerful, sensitive, and provocative. . .
. Glaser stands inside his own humanity as a gay male and hears the word
of God through the Bible. Christians, gay and straight, need this
book if we are to be the body of Christ."
The Rev. Carter Heyward called "Come Home," "an enthusiastic
compelling
testimony to the power of faith in the lives of many gay and lesbian Christians."
Virginia Ramey Mollenkott said, "If courage, honesty, and insight
are beautiful, then this is one beautiful book. . . . I rejoice
that in this book all the gay men and lesbian women who have been
robbed of their spirituality are issued an urgent invitation: Come
home!"
"Come Home!" by Chris Glaser offers a vision of faith, hope,
and affirmation inviting gay men and lesbians to come home to their spirituality
through Christian faith and community. Order your copy today!
"Come Home!" costs $19.95, $14.95 each for 6 or more copies,
plus S & H

6. The Last Word
I apologize for the delay in getting this out to you. We hope to publish
the
Chi Rho Press eNewsletter on the 1st and 15th of each month.
This edition is delayed because on Thursday, May 27, I flew down to Tampa,
Florida, and helped my best friend drive to back to Maryland in a rented
truck, towing his car, with all his worldly goods! My friend Caeb will
be starting law school in the autumn.
We took our time, stopped on St. Helena Island, SC, for the beautiful
wedding of two Gay men whom Caeb knows from his work as an LGBT activist.
We spent a day there, sailed, watched dolphins, ate wonderful low country
food, and I got sunburned on the beach. Then we drove back to the DC on
Memorial Day, safe and sound.
Thanks for your patience!
Well, that wraps up our third eNewsletter. Please continue to keep us
in your prayers. We hope our publications will be of use to you in your
life and
ministry.
We will talk with you again in about two weeks.
Grace and peace,
Adam DeBaugh
