1. Chi Rho Press has its own domain name now! ChiRhoPress.com is on line!
Thanks to the efforts of our Humble List Servant (Ron DeVrou, who not only maintains our e-mail list and sends out this eNewsletter, but serves the Press as a board member and treasurer) we have registered ChiRhoPress.com as our very own domain name and are able to receive mail there.

We will be phasing out our America On Line mailing address over the next few months (but will still be able to receive mail from it for quite a while) and we have set up a number of e-mail addresses at ChiRhoPress.com.

2. Special Offer

"The Road to Emmaus" is on sale for $10.95 each! Until the next issue of this eNewsletter is published at the end of the month, Chi Rho Press will offer this excellent book of daily devotions for  $10.95 each, down from the $12.95 retail price.

"The Road to Emmaus: Daily Encounters with the Risen Christ," is an inclusive devotional edited by Joseph W. Houle and published in 1989 by Emmaus House of Prayer. Chi Rho Press is now the exclusive source  of this wonderful book.

"The Road to Emmaus" is a valuable resource for those who wish to balance the frenetic pace of modern life with moments of recollection and spiritual
refreshment. There is a Gospel reading for each day of the year and a
meditation based upon it. Each meditation is a gentle invitation to become
attentive to the presence of the Sacred in the ordinary circumstances of our lives and to open our hearts to the risen Christ in quiet reflection.

As an inclusive devotional, "The Road to Emmaus" affirms the goodness of all God's children -- the young and the old; the male and the female; the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered person; heterosexuals; the single, coupled, and   celibate; and people of all races, physically ability, and education. Its underlying message is that the Gospel is good news for all people.

If you seek a deeper walk with the risen Christ, the daily meditations of "The Road to Emmaus" will speed you on your way.

James B. Nelson writes, "Reading the devotions in The Road to Emmaus made scriptural passages come alive for me, often in new ways. Further, the writings prodded me to examine my spirituality more honestly. And, most importantly, they freshened my hope."

Contributors to "The Road to Emmaus" include the Rev. Kathy Baker, the late Rev. Harold J. Burris, Adam DeBaugh, Sarah Fershee, Sr. Jeannine Gramick, the Rev. Louis Kavar, Virginia Miles, Fr. Robert Nugent, Jack Pantaleo, the Rev. Dusty Pruitt, the Rev. Andy Sidden, and the late Rev. Larry Uhrig.

"The Road to Emmaus" is available through this month from Chi Rho Press at
$10.95 each plus shipping and handling (S&H).

3. Book of the Month

"My Memory Book: A Journal for Grieving Children," by Gretchen Gaines-Lane, LCSW-C, $10.95 each, $8.95 each for six or more copies, plus shipping and handling (S&H).

This was our first book by a non-Gay author on a theme not specific to the LGBT community. I was working for a time for a local hospice and the bereavement social worker walked into my office one day and  said, "I understand you have another life as a publisher. I have written this book." We get a lot of unexpected manuscripts, and sometimes they really work out, but often they are not suitable for publication for a variety of reasons.

But Gretchen Gaines-Lane had something we had never done before -- a book by a non-Gay person that wasn't aimed directly at the LGBT readership. Gretchen captured the imagination of our publications committee and board. What followed was a wonderful collaborative process between Gretchen Gaines-Lane as author, Adam DeBaugh as editor, Mary Lou O'Brien as calligrapher, and Craig Arnold as cover artist. And the result was this wonderful book: "My Memory Book: A Journal for Grieving Children."

"My Memory Book" has minimal text. Rather it focuses on leading the bereaved person through a series of over 20 exercises -- drawing, writing, journaling, even collage is encouraged as people work through their grief and at the same time create a lasting Memory Book about the loved one who has died. The reader is invited to draw or paint in whatever medium they like best. The finished Memory Book can be a very creative and beautiful work with special meaning for the bereaved.

While originally designed for children from 6 to 12 years old, we have discovered that "children of all ages" find therapeutic value in "My Memory Book" and many adults are using it as a tool in their own grieving process. "My Memory Book" encourages you to express your deepest thoughts about death and the loved one who died. Directions for each exercise are given on the left hand side page, the right hand side page is devoted to your creative use.

"My Memory Book" sells for $10.95 each, $8.95 for six or more copies, plus
shipping and handling.

4. Promissory Notes Still Available.

We still have some Promissory Notes available. The Chi Rho Press Board of
Directors is issuing $1,000 Promissory Notes at 8% simple interest. The term of these notes is two years and they will be repaid in quarterly installments of about $140 each quarter. The money invested by our supporters in these Promissory Notes is being used to complete our debt consolidation (which is almost finished) and for the capitalization of new projects.

e-mail Adam DeBaugh at Adam@ChiRhoPress.com for the text of the Note. Upon receipt of your check for $1,000, we'll send you the signed Promissory Note and payment schedule. Please include your mailing address (snail mail) and telephone number. Send checks for the Promissory Note to Chi Rho Press, Inc., P.O. Box 7864, Gaithersburg, MD 20898.

5. The Last Word

This has already been an eventful summer for us here at Chi Rho Press. Not only did we set up our own domain name -- ChiRhoPress.com -- but we purchased a new computer to replace the creaky old one that we had been using for the last few years. The new computer has lots of memory and a very fast modem connection.  We also have many new programs, shifting from WordPerfect to Microsoft Word for Windows to combine both editing and publishing functions into one program, and beginning to use EudoraPro as our e-mail program, to name just two.

We are in final editing stages for our next publication, "Steps to Recovery from Bible Abuse," by Dr. Rembert Truluck. Dr. Truluck is the author of the very popular "Invitation to Freedom," published by Chi Rho Press. He has created a wonderful new 12 step program for people who have been abused by others who use the Bible as a weapon instead of a liberating source of joy and peace. The book is in the form of a series of 52 Bible studies. Watch for the details of a new, special, pre-publication offer for "Steps to Recovery from Bible Abuse" in an upcoming edition of this eNewsletter.

That wraps up our fifth eNewsletter. We hope you continue to enjoy the summer.

Please keep us in your prayers. We hope our publications will be of use to you in your life and ministry.

We will talk with you again in about two weeks.

Grace and peace,

Adam DeBaugh
