1.    Prayer Request

May we ask for your prayers?

Things have slowed down considerably here at Chi Rho Press, the recession apparently hit us hard and sales have fallen off.

Chi Rho Press is a LGBT Christian publishing house and we work hard to serve our community of faith. We have continued to update our Web page (http://www.ChiRhoPress.com). The Chi Rho Connection and our weekly Chi Rho Reflections continue to be well received. But sales have been slow. We need to sell more books!

We ask for your prayers for this ministry to the LGBT community. If you feel moved to buy a book or a gift, or make a tax-deductible contribution to the work and ministry of the Press, or purchase a Promissory Note, that would be a huge help.

Thank you.

2.    An Appeal for Sr. Jeannine Grammick

We have received a letter from New Ways Ministry concerning Sr. Jeannine Grammick, co-founder of that organization. Sr. Jeannine is also one of the contributors to 'The Road to Emmaus,' a book of daily devotionals that is the source of the Chi Rho Reflection sent out each week.

Jeannine has been a vowed religious for 42 years and is presently with the Sisters of Loretto; she left the School Sisters of Notre Dame when they supported the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith prohibition against Jeannine's ministry to gay and lesbian persons and their parents. Jeannine continues her ministry, but it must be self-supporting, which has been difficult since the Vatican's ban.

If you are able to help provide some financial security for one who has been a pioneer and mainstay for the lesbian/gay movement in the Catholic Church, you are invited to make a tax-deductible donation payable to "Sisters of Loretto" with the notation "Sr. Jeannine Gay Ministry Fund;" the check will be deposited directly into an account for Jeannine's current and future needs. Send the check to Sr. Denise Ann Clifford, 300 E Hamden Ave #400, Englewood, CO 80110-2661.

3.    Featured Products: Handouts for Pride Month

Chi Rho Press is pleased to announce the full availability of its complete line of Handouts. These Handouts are especially useful for Pride events!

Three of our four Handouts are specifically designed for Metropolitan Community Churches, while the fourth, 'Free to Be: A Brief Look at the Bible and Homosexuality,' is useful for everyone dealing with the issue of the Bible and homosexuality.

The Chi Rho Press line of Handouts includes:

'FREE TO BE LESBIAN/GAY: A Brief Look at the Bible and Homosexuality,' by the Rev. Michael England. A brief analysis of the Biblical passages traditionally used to condemn homosexuality. Based on his best selling book, 'The Bible and Homosexuality,' now in its fifth edition from Chi Rho Press, Michael England has distilled the most important information from the book into this convenient, pocket-sized Handout.

'WELCOME TO MCC!' by R. Adam DeBaugh. Basic background information about the UFMCC. Useful for visitors to MCC churches or anyone interested in learning about MCC.

'WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?' by R. Adam DeBaugh. An explanation of the UFMCC Statement of Faith, the creedal statement that binds MCC members together worldwide.

'WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A MEMBER OF MCC?' by R. Adam DeBaugh. A description of the requirements for membership in MCC.

The four Handouts are helpful ministry tools for membership classes, visitors' packets, Pride events, while traveling on church business, or during visits to friends in the community. All four Handouts clearly and quickly inform readers about issues important to MCC congregations.

Chi Rho Press's Handouts are pocket size reference materials priced at $0.20 each, plus shipping and handling. Discounts can be arranged for orders of very large quantities. Handouts are six inches high by 18 inches long, and folded down to a handy, pocket-sized, six by three-inch brochure.

Order Handouts directly at http://www.chirhopress.com/products/brochures.html. In addition, Chi Rho Press offers other books useful to MCC's ministry. 'The UFMCC Mission Statement,' by Rev. Virginia G. Miles and R. Adam DeBaugh reflects on an early mission statement adopted by the UFMCC General Council. Jean Gralley's insightful cartoons collected in 'What a Fellowship' will add levity and meaning to the congregational life of any MCC. Also, Gralley's 'Whole Church Body Book' explains church history in a way that all members can enjoy, with special attention to the life and call of the laity in the church.

Please visit our Web site at http://www.ChiRhoPress.com to learn about our full line of products that each celebrates the faith and sexuality of all people.

5.    Invest in a Promissory Note!

The Board of Directors of Chi Rho Press has authorized issuing new Promissory Notes at 6% simple interest. The Promissory Notes are a way for Chi Rho Press to seek capitalization for our ministry. The investments will be used to pay down existing, more expensive debt, increase staff effectiveness, and fund the printing of new publications. We urge you to invest in this ministry with $1,000 or more in Promissory Notes.

This is an excellent investment for your church building fund, as well as for individuals who want to receive a good return on their investment while helping the LGBT community.

Promissory Notes in $1,000 increments are available from Chi Rho Press, at 6% simple interest, repaid in eight quarterly payments over a two year period.

Write Adam@ChiRhoPress.com for the text of the Promissory Note, and send your check for $1,000 (or $2,000, $3,000, or even $5,000!). We will send a signed Note upon the receipt of your check.

Of course, contributions to Chi Rho Press are fully tax deductible. If you are able to make a financial gift to this ministry, we would welcome your support. Our Guardian Angel Individual Sponsors program starts with a minimum gift of $150 a year and our Guardian Angels receive discounts on Press publications, free gifts during the year, and special other perks.

Thanks for your support!

6.    Adam's Last Word:

I hope you all are well and enjoying the merry month of May. I have been making some changes in my home and office this month. I moved the stained glass workshop up to the open loft-like area where the Press offices are on the third floor and converted another room on the second floor to inventory storage and order fulfillment. In place of boxes of books stored in one large area in a corner of the office there are now four tall wooden bookcases holding part of my personal library, a small couch and a wing chair, making a comfortable little area to read manuscripts and to work.

Change is often a good and healthy thing. We continue to try to make changes here at the Press to better serve our customers and other partners in ministry with us.

Editor Kevin Fries has completed the first editing of Dr. Sandy Bochonok's book of daily devotions, 'Living as the Beloved.' This is very good news for us, as we slowly move toward publication of this exciting book. I have completed the second editing pass of January through July (my edits come after Kevin and Sandy have finished their first pass).

We are looking at some other promising manuscripts as well, but publication requires money and we still need more sales! Please, urge your friends and colleagues to look over our Web page and buy books, handouts, gift items, and stained glass.

Please consider making a tax deductible contribution to the ministry of Chi Rho Press. Go to http://www.chirhopress.com/sponsor.html to make a contribution on line, using your credit card. While annual contributions of $150 or more make you a Guardian Angel, even gifts of $25 or $50 or $100 will help a great deal.

If everyone who reads this Chi Rho Connection went on line right now and made a $25 contribution this ministry would be totally out of debt and on a very sound financial footing! Will you take a step of faith right now and help?

And please consider investing in a Promissory Note (see article number 5). Your help as a partner in this ministry is vital to our continuation.

Lastly, please keep Chi Rho Press, our staff and board of directors in your prayers. Thank you and God bless you!

--------------------------------------------------

We are glad you are partners in ministry with us here at Chi Rho Press. We are eager for your comments, your suggestions, your assistance with selling our books, and your own purchases! And of course, we covet your prayers for this ministry.

Grace and peace,

Adam DeBaugh, Director
